Rand McNally Road Atlas App Reviews

too expensive for what it offers

There are many other great offline map apps out there, and they are under $3. The road atlas app doesnt allow zooming with great detail, and that makes it sort of useless compared to what many others offer. I would never recommend this for anyone. If they had the ability to route or turn map features on or off, that would sure help. Otherwise, just get the paper copy of this for the area you are looking for.

Only good for overview

Very limited resolution. Not really useable for detailed information. Says it has Canadian Provinces, well the Yukon is a province and is not included. I regret buying this app.

Good app but...

Good apps you have all the cards that you need like the paper version but you need to know where is the city that youre looking for. For example, if youre looking for the city of East Broughton QC and you dont know where that city is located, there is no way to find it by any browser or anything? Try it? Hope they will update that issue soon...?

Good but..

Thats the electronic version of the paper version, good maps, but expensive for what we have, only the overview like the paper version.

OK App

Not worth the money. No search, limited zoom, nothing interactive like plotting.Google Maps much better and free!

atlas maps

I wish they would have at least included the distance tables that are on the paper atlas, and an index would have been nice. Otherwise, the maps show up good and clear on the ipod.

Canadian Provinces are incomplete

Other reviewers of the previous version were correct in saying that this is just an electronic version of their glossy Atlas book. However, I am fine with that but with this 2016 release, sections of the Canadian provinces are cut off or missing entirely and when the maps load, you cannot scroll to your area to pinch and zoom for more detail. This needs to be fixed. Otherwise, it does not inspire confidence on some of their other products on their website that look good.

This Atlas is Crap

Do not buy this app. The Canadian provinces are only half there and the Yukon is missing. I bought this for the Canadian section. How do I get my money back?

Rand McNally

Since last update map does not even open. Poor would not bother using.

Do not buy

Poor quality. Any other map does better

Cant download

Ive tried to download the app several times. Apparently, the files are so large it times out even though I have 120mps internet service. I can stream all I want but this app simply wont download.

WOW

What a waste, its just a map for your phone or iPad. There is no trip planner or ANYTHING!! Google maps is FREE and much better.

Exactly what it says on the tin

This exactly what you should expect, a digital version of their printed road atlas. It is not a navigation app. No, it wont tell you where the nearest Starbucks is in downtown San Francisco and tell you how to get there step-by-step. There are plenty of those apps, if thats what you want. These are instead beautiful maps made by cartographers. You can zoom in, but its just enlarging images. You dont get more detail, but the detail in these maps is right for its intended use. The app is very simple and easy to use, not a bunch of buttons with cryptic symbols and junk you dont need cluttering the screen. Its great for planning road trips and offline use. It costs the same as the printed and ebook versions. Its a good compliment to the other navigation apps.

Not sure why!

Loved the initial download but the latest up date will not load on my iPad 2.

Updates do not work

The app itself is really nice, but the updates need work. They never download correctly and have to be installed multiple times until one day they take. The developers need to make sure that if they make an update it actually downloads. I cannot seem to get this current update to download at all. It takes about ten minutes and then finally says "unable to download update at this time"

All the books in one

I am a fan of the map books by RandMcNally and own a few of them, this is a nice complement to those. I like this update a lot, as they added some missing state parks that werent in the previous version. I only wish they had an index like in the books of notable places and what not.

Lacking

Could use a search option and locate you on GPS.

Minimal interactivity, but still has its uses

I bought this when it first came out in 2014, and its a nice surprise to see new maps in a free update to the app. Unfortunately Rand McNally hasnt addressed any of the serious shortcomings of the original version. Theres no index -- meaning you cant look up cities and towns -- and each state map is totally discrete and disconnected from other states. Its not even fun to browse: the maps are blurry because they were scanned from paper rather than published specifically for the app, so the text isnt really text, just pixels. And the kicker? The app still only functions in landscape mode, despite the fact that most users hold their iPad in portrait mode 90% of the time.

Was better a few days ago!

With the April 13 update of the maps, the ability to go to adjacent states by touch was lost--to me a 4-star feature. An index of cities and towns would make it a 5-star application.

Was decent until latest update

Update won’t install on iPad mini.
